Biobank opened at National Medical Research Center for Cardiology of the Ministry of Healthcare of Russia
In 2013, the order No. 281 of the Ministry of Health of Russia “On the approval of scientific platforms of medical science” defined the role of biobanks as a necessary tool for the innovative development of medical technologies in Russia.
Biobanks are the most important link for the development of translational and personalized medicine, effective early diagnosis, monitoring and prediction of diseases, development and implementation of new highly effective drugs in clinical practice.
The main activity of the Biobank FSBI “NICC of Cardiology” of the Ministry of Health of Russia is:
— in creating and maintaining a large-scale collection of biological samples obtained from patients with cardiovascular diseases at different stages of their development, at different stages of treatment, as well as from individuals who do not suffer from these diseases;
— in creating and maintaining a collection of biological samples obtained in the course of scientific research, including cell lines obtained from transgenic animals, genetically modified cells, hybridomas, antibodies, DNA, RNA, extracellular vesicles, tissue samples;
— in providing the necessary samples of research work carried out by units of the FSBI “NICC of Cardiology” of the Ministry of Health of Russia and legal entities with whom the FSBI “NICC of Cardiology” of the Ministry of Health of Russia has contractual relations.
Created collections will be intended for:
- studying the mechanisms of the development of diseases of the cardiovascular system (including molecular genetic and epigenetic mechanisms);
- development of innovative drugs for cardiology and other areas of medicine;
- development of new methods of regenerative medicine (gene and cell therapy, tissue engineering);
- development of methods for the prevention, diagnosis, monitoring, prediction and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
