News of Russian biobanks: SibGMU Biobank
Siberian State Medical University (SibGMU) has a unique infrastructure that allows to implement the full cycle of translational medicine, including the biobanking stage.
SibSMU Biobank was created and equipped as part of the ‘Precision Medicine’ strategic project of the Priority 2030 programme. The biobank is one of the key components of the university’s personalised medicine development, complies with all international standards and is ISO 9001:2015 certified. Biomaterial bank resources allow to obtain, identify and store disease-oriented biological samples, such as cells and tissues, blood components, DNA and RNA isolated from biomaterial. A set of biomaterials is produced for a wide range of nosologies, among which priority ones are oncological diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, allergic diseases, obesity, diabetes mellitus. Since 2022, the biobank has been cooperating with the National Bioservice Company and actively participates in the implementation of research work on the topic: “Creation of a national biobanking and bioservice platform for the search of biomarkers, preclinical research in vitro, and the development of digital biomedicine”.
To date, new data on the activity of neuroinflammation induced by ischemic brain damage, priority information regarding the diagnostic and prognostic value of serum light chains of neurofilaments in multiple sclerosis have been obtained using biobank biomaterial, the most significant biomarkers of inflammation in assessing the prognosis of the course and response to therapy in colorectal cancer have been identified, fatty acids profiling after biliopancreatic bypass surgery has been performed in patients with morbid obesity.
