Dear colleagues!

We invite you to participate in VIII school on biobanking “Fundamentals of Biobanking in Microbiology”, which will be held from 25-27 June, 2024 in Smolensk, on the basis of Institute of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy of the Smolensk State Medical Academy.

The educational program has the following goals and objectives:

• To provide the theoretical and practical knowledge required to maintain an existing biobank and establish a new biobank;
• To facilitate the exchange of knowledge and skills between different groups of researchers involved in sample preparation, biomaterial storage and various scientific studies;
• To study the principles of a standardized approach to all stages of biobanking;
• To improve the quality of scientific research and awareness of biobanks;
• Learn to apply the scientific experience of biobanking to the development and implementation of SOPs in laboratory practice.

The following issues will be covered during the 3-day course:

• Introduction to biobanking
• Design and operation of biobanks
• Standardization of processes
• Ethical and legal aspects
• Features of the main stages of biobanks’ work
• Biobank IT components and technological solutions
• Quality control
• Features of biobanking of different microbiological samples
• Molecular genetic and genomic methods for species identification of microorganisms
